Mouldy food, dead insects and sweaty socks; nearly half of adult Aussies reveal they have found something disgusting lurking in their sofa.

From allowing pets on the sofa, to discovering hidden objects between the cushions, or having never cleaned them, Australian adults have found and done it all on their sofas according to a new survey by Fantastic Furniture.

Shockingly, the nationally representative study shows that half of Australian adults (49%) have found something disgusting in or on their sofa, whether it be mouldy or odorous food (37%), spilt drinks that have left a sticky residue (36%), insects (30%), or sweaty, dirty socks (29%).

The equivalent of almost one million Aussies have admitted to vomiting on their sofas and over one million have found wee or poo courtesy of their pet or child. In addition, almost one million Aussies have also found parts of a dead animal thanks to their pets and many have confessed to finding old bones from the family dog.

In light of these recent survey results which present astonishing revelations about Australia’s sofa habits, Fantastic Furniture is launching Australia’s Scariest Sofa Swap: a competition giving Australians the chance to turn their sofa horror story into a Fantastic one this Halloween. The grand prize winner will receive a $3,000 Fantastic Furniture gift card to make over their lounge room! The competition will be judged by TV personality Yvie Jones and opens for entries on October 14.

Halloween and sofa-loving TV Celebrity Yvie Jones will be selecting the Australia’s Scariest Sofa Swap winner and has had more than her fair share of experience with sofa antics thanks to her mischievous furbabies:

“Most of Australia has been inside my living room by way of Gogglebox and are pretty well acquainted with my sofa. My dogs and I love it to bits, so much so that they often bury chicken necks in amongst the cushions. If you find them immediately you are winning, if you don’t…well that can get quite scary!” Yvie said.

Entrants will be required to share a picture of their sofa horror story on Instagram using the hashtag #scarysofaswap, and tag @FantasticFurniture OR by entering online at fantasticfurniture.com.au/scary-sofa-swap.One winner each week will be given a $500 Fantastic Furniture voucher for their scariest sofa entry before the overall Grand Prize winner is announced in the week commencing November 11.
